Abstract The purpose of this study is to save of cooling and heating load in hotel guestrooms. The samp1e hotel building, located in Seoul Korea, has about 538 guest rooms and the building is facing toward the south. All rooms are divided into two directions(Southern rooms and Nothem rooms). Because of the shape of thebuilding, energy consuInpton nlust have the difRerence from southem rooms to northem rooms by solar radiation energy. To find out the actual difference of energy consumption rate, the simulation program of EnergyPlus released by U.S Depanment of Energy(DOE) is employed. To save energy load in hoteI roonlsthere are rnany Energy use hctors. In this study, four factors(window inner coating, window outer coating, window shading, peop1e) are contolled because these factors can be practically applied in this hotel. In the Daguchi mothod toavoid interaction, onhogonal anay L8(2^(4-1)) is selected by number of the control fhctors. After choosing of energy use fhctors, the EnergyP1us is sirnuIated by theDaguche method. As a result of this study, innuence of each control hctor is investigated. when inner coated glass is applied, cooling load decreases by 2.5% of an annual cooling load in all zones (Zone-SH, Zone-SL, Zone-N) and heating load decreases by 5.9% in all zones. When outer coated glass is applied, cooling load decreases by l1.2% and heating load increases by 8.5% in all zones. When dra`ving cun[ain is used cooling load decreases by 8% in all zones and heating load decreases by 3.6% in Zone-N and increases by 1.1% in Zone-SH, Zone-SL. nerefore net heating load decreases by 2.5% When the people are moved to the norUlern zone, cooling load decreases by 4.6% in Zone-SH, Zone-SL, and increases by 2.8% in Zone-N. Hence, net cooling load decreases by l.7%. Heating load increases by 5.2% in Zone-SH and Zone-SL, and it decreases by l0.9% in Zone-bL Hence netheating decreases by 5.6%.
